Changing my 80s house with a modern design

I don’t update my home very often.

In fact, when my husband and I first moved into our place we did major updates.

We changed the bathrooms, kitchens, and paint colors. Now remember this was back in the 80s. Color was all the rage in a home. I ended up with a pink and blue bathroom. I also had a lot of bold tile choices and wallpaper. It was amazing when we moved in. Now in 2024, it looks horrible. I decided that now was finally the time to make some updates. I called up an interior designer to get some assistance. I knew I needed to do some demo work. I also knew I needed to spend some money. I got some advice on new colors and fabrics. I didn’t want my house to look like 2024 though. I wanted something that would last a lifetime. Something classic, fresh and modern. I looked through a catalog and decided on a transitional style that was mainly beige, gray, white, and light blue. Clean, classic, and pure. Perfect for my house. I had all the floors redone and the walls painted. I had new lights and hardware put in. My couch got reupholstered along with my chairs. I got all new cabinets, curtains, and rugs. My house got a major facelift. It was a hectic, time consuming, and pricey project. In the end I am very glad that I did it. No more bright colors and tacky wallpaper. No more feeling like I am in the 80s. My house looks like a normal house for the time period. I know if I plan to sell my place it will actually do well on the market.
