Making due without fireplace at vacation spot

For weeks now, my boyfriend and I have been going back and forth about planning a fun mini vacation next month.

We’ve had difficulties deciding if we could both get off work and figuring out where exactly we wanted to go, so our plans were pushed back further and further.

Frankly, neither of us could make the decision to pull the trigger, so we became stagnant with our vacation plans. The entire time, we spoke only about wanting to rent a cabin in the mountains and sit cozily in front of a beautiful fireplace. There’s nothing of that either of us enjoyed more than a beautiful view, a toasty warm space, and each other’s company. The thought of lounging around together in front of a traditional wood-burning fireplace was all that kept me going last month. Unfortunately, by the time we finally committed to our days off and booked the cabin rental, an enormous wood burning fireplace was no longer in the cards. We have to settle for a subpar cabin that featured modern heating and cooling equipment, rather than traditional fireplaces or wood burning stoves. In fact, the cabin that we wound up with had brand new, high tech heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment. The heating and cooling system was fully wired to a smart thermostat switch was tied up with the home surveillance system. There were independent temperature controls and every room, and air purification systems that’s fully removed the woodsy smell from the house. I’m still glad that we got away, but it wasn’t exactly the rustic situation that we were looking for.
