A couple of years ago my roommate decided to install this handy new HVAC system.
- He said it was the newest technology and would solve all of our problems.
Back then we were blowing money due to the lack of insulation in the old house we were renting. It got so bad we wouldn’t even turn on the original system, instead, we would just open the windows and doors in hopes a good breeze would come in. So when my roommate brought home the new system I was grateful but conscious. He had taken it upon himself to install the system and refused to call or even ask our buddy who was HVAC certified for help. After the first month with the new system, we had seen a tiny drop in the electric bill so my roommate took that as a good sign. He then made it to where the temperature control was almost always at 75 degrees, which was the lowest we had ever had any of our HVAC systems. Well, when we got our next monthly bill and the price had doubled I nearly fainted. I had our certified friend come take a look at it and it turned out that the new system would only save was only going to save us about a tenth of the amount we had been spending originally, so my roommate had been wrong. I asked our friend if there was anything he could do and he was able to fix the system so that the temperature never dropped below 80 degrees regardless of what the temperature control unit said. I have yet to tell my roommate even though he repeatedly gloats about how he magically fixed the HVAC system and our bills all by himself.
