Thought roommate smelled, it was the HVAC system

A few months ago I moved into a brand new home with a brand new roommate.

  • As you know, it’s always a huge adjustment when you are getting involved with somebody new.

It’s never easy to live with another human because everybody has diverse preferences and weird personal quirks that you have to overcome. One of the things that I thought was going to be an ongoing challenge was my roommates apparent body odor. I never noticed that he was smelly before, but as soon as we got into the same house together our indoor air quality was really suffering from odorous contamination. I didn’t know how to approach the smelly situation with him, so I kept my mouth shut and began pumping air fresheners into our indoor air. The air fresheners never really removed the unfortunate airborne smell, but added floral notes to the rank odors I was detecting each day. Eventually, I realized I was going to have to say something about the low quality indoor air and his hygiene problems. Fortunately, it never got to that point because my roommate broke the same news to me. He sat me down one day and tried to have a talk about my smelly nature. When we both stared at each other inquisitively, we realized that maybe nobody was to blame for the unfortunate airborne contamination. That’s when I called a central heating and cooling technician and asked them to inspect our air ducts work and filtration devices. The certified heating and cooling pack quickly revealed the problem; our air ducts were completely packed with mold and mildew that was creating a barnyard effect as our central heating and cooling system operated each day. Thank God, I don’t have to teach my roommate about showering.
