Unique jobs, unique zones for HVAC

When this whole pandemic began you better believe that my husband and I had some trouble adjusting to the new living situation.

  • Thank God, we are both living in the same state at the time, because the other points he has been a traveling salesman.

At least we are in the house together, but it’s a challenge not to drive each other insane. Part of the problem is that we both have such diverse jobs and we have to work out of the same home. This makes our central heating and cooling system a point of contention in our relationship nearly every day. We simply need different indoor air quality controls to be comfortable due to our diverse positions. My husband happens to be a writer and consultant for a large publishing house. He sits around all day which means he’s often freezing cold and wants to have a warmer indoor air temperature. Because he isn’t moving around much, he isn’t a big fan of the central cooling system or having any drafts in his office space. On the other hand, I teach online fitness courses out of the house. Because I’m always running in place, stretching, and doing floor exercises I work up a sweat that necessitates the central cooling system to be blasting. We were at each other’s throats over these differing opinions and air quality control until we consulted with a professional HVAC technician. When we described our circumstances, he quickly recommended that we get zone controlled heating and cooling and save ourselves the arguments. These days, we can work in our unique industries and unique temperature control zones without wringing each others’ necks. Our fighting has subsided and we are both much happier.
